Penny Black and Simon Says Stamp

My friend Barb Engler is the guest designer this month on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge blog.  This week the theme is "winter" and they are highlighting Penny Black stamps.  In spite of the fact I should be making sure everything is ready for our flight to Wisconsin tomorrow, I could not resist entering the challenge.

40-356 Woodland Wonder;30-261 Nature's Friends;  51-069 Together
I am editing this post to add that I am also entering this card in Virginia Lu's challenge "All things distressed".  The background is made with distress inks applied with the blending tool.

And because there is magic in the air at this time of the year, I will be in Wisconsin and on the Penny Black blog this Saturday!  I told you, it's magic!!

When I look at this card I see a winter sky .. I hope Simon Says agrees!

Thanks for stopping by.  I love sharing cards made with the Penny Black slapstick stamp Woodland Wonder.

Adorned with Love and Running with Scissors

My goodness!  It's been two weeks since I've posted on my blog.  Thanksgiving was a lovely day, even though we celebrated on Wednesday instead of Thursday.  My daughter Kathy and Larry's golfing partner Tom added much to the enjoyment of the day.

I am back to running with scissors on the Penny Black blog today.  I've missed my visits there lately and had a bit of trouble remembering how to get there!
http://pennyblackinc.wordpress.com/

40-341 Adorned with Love

I've also been working with a Penny Black slapstick stamp lately called Adorned with Love.  While it could be a very elegant Christmas stamp, I also see it's potential for friendship, love and Valentine's Day.  I added some little dew drops onto the purple image and some shiny red hearts for the Valentine's version.  You might notice that on the purple card, I've cut away the lines framing the image.  It just gives the image a different look.  Love it when we can use a stamp in different ways for different occasions!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are celebrating Thanksgiving a day early so that my visiting daughter can be here to help eat up the leftovers!  She flies out Friday morning to her life in Minneapolis.  She is enjoying our 55 degree weather and doesn't miss her down coat a bit!  So Happy Thanksgiving one day early!

51-081 Branching out; 51-071 Words of Gratitude; 51-055 Shades; 30-251 Nature's Gift
This is a card made mostly with Penny Black dies and one leaf stamp!  I am waiting for the invention that makes it possible for sparkly paper to sparkle in a photo!

We are, indeed, thankful in our family for the many blessings of this past year, including the new baby, Jack Lincoln.  He is doing well, sleeping and eating and being adorable.

I wish for all of you a day filled with friends, food and family.  If you have all that, there is much to be grateful for.  I am thankful for my many blog and stamping friends that make my world a little bigger.

Welcome to the World, Jack Lincoln!

It is my privilege and joy to introduce you to my youngest son's youngest son, Jack Lincoln who was born on Tuesday, November 18th and weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz, 20 inches long.  Of course, he belongs to his Mommy Sara, too, who is doing well ... Jack is home from the hospital already and is eating and sleeping and doing other baby things just like he is supposed to.

Our family has much to be thankful for!

Feeling Blessed

Yes, it's that time of year to focus on blessings and expressing thanks.  We will be celebrating Thanksgiving on Wednesday instead of  Thursday this year due to my Minnesota daughter's traveling schedule.  If we have the big turkey dinner on Wednesday, she will still be here on Thursday to enjoy a second day of turkey and the trimmings!

Larry's golf partner, Tom, who is recently widowed with no family in town, will  join us for our Wednesday celebration with the agreement that I will send him home with leftovers for his Thanksgiving dinner the next day.  No problem!

51-071 Words of Gratitude; 51-055 Shades; 51-053 Pocket Full; 51-051 Tabs and Toggles; 30-251 Nature's Gifts
I put this card together using mostly Creative Dies from Penny Black, with just a touch of background stamping.  I love the fall colors and I'm not ready to abandon them just yet!

I am on track to be ready, projects finished, fall housecleaning done, some cooking completed when my daughter's plane lands on Tuesday.  We will continue the tradition of making the stuffing together, using her grandmother's recipe.  My dh especially loves it and enjoys it for days after the holiday is over.

I love Thanksgiving!  It is so less complicated than Christmas.  Friends, family and food; perfect recipe for a celebration.

I am blessed by your visit!  Thank you for stopping by.

Festive Floral by Penny Black

Sometimes plain and simple is the way to go!  I enjoy the classic look and colors of Christmas as well as non-traditional.

Festive Florals 40-352; 51-058 Joyous Wishes

I stamped the berry branch on egg shell linen paper and colored with Copics.  I love how Penny Black's sentiment dies add so much!  Could someone just push down on that "m" for me?

Well, it's Saturday morning again ... and I am running with scissors on the Penny Black blog.  Hope you'll check out what I've done this time!  Hint:  it's pretty intricate!!

Winter Play by Penny Black

It's Saturday morning!  Every time I say that I think of the Ali McGraw movie "Love Story".  For me, that was the perfect movie; love, heartbreak, terminal illness.  It's a classic!

Anyway, just having fun with a Penny Black transparent set, Winter Play.  Sometimes a girl just needs to color.  There's lots of shimmer that doesn't show up in the photo.  The blue matt paper shimmers, and there is Wink of Stella wherever I could paint it.

30-265  Winter Play
In my life, Saturday morning often finds me on the Penny Black blog where they let me run with my scissors.  Today you can read about Cooper's grill friend (and that's not a typo) as well as see some Fall themed cards.

We are still adjusting to the change in time.  Cooper especially is still on "tummy" time for meals.  Hope you are having a great weekend.  Thanks for your visit.

Clean and Simple Penny Black

This past week the Penny Black blog has featured Halloween cards made by Jean Manis in her signature Clean and Simple style.  I love CAS cards, but don't always manage to keep things clean and simple!

51-067 World of Wishes; 30-251 Nature's Gift; 30-261 Nature's Friends; 40-335 Fall Flutters

I made the background using Distress inks applied thickly with the distressing tool.  I created the "shooting star" effect by first drying the background well with my heat gun.  I then used a baby wipe to make spots of the "sky" a bit damp.  I sprinkled a tiny amount of white embossing powder on the damp spots and used the heat gun to emboss.  Several of the transparent sets in the recent Winter Wonderland release can be used to easily create really interesting "scenes", such as this one.

Even though the wintry scene has a lot going on, I think all the white space makes this card eligible for the CAS title!

See more of my CAS cards on the Penny Black blog today where I am running with my scissors.

Watercolor Backgrounds with Penny Black

It's been all about watercolored backgrounds on the Penny Black blog this week.  I love the freedom that working with water colors allows.  I used my set of Peerless watercolors and an unusual color mix to create the background for the Penny Black slapstick Woodland Wonder.  Honestly, after painting the background I wasn't very happy with it, but once I stamped and embossed the Woodland Wonder image and added the diecut birds from In a Row, I was pleased!

40-356 Woodland Wonder; 51-001 In a Row
And today is a Run with Scissors day at the Penny Black blog.  Hope to see you there .. it's all about three little words!!

It's Saturday Morning!!

And I am running with my scissors on the Penny Black blog today!!

http://pennyblackinc.wordpress.com/

But before I go, here's an easy peasy Halloween card I made using only Penny Black dies and a bit of patterned paper!  What did we do before we had so many wonderful dies??

I've used three different die sets:  Haunted Hollow 51-073; Eek 51-077; Boo Crew 51-075.

As you read this, I am traveling from Huntsville to Cincinnati, Ohio for a stamping retreat with just a few of my close stamping friends!   Five days spent with forty fun, funny, creative and caring women!

It's been a crazy couple of weeks at our house, culminating with a car accident last Saturday which totaled our one remaining car!  Again, a distracted driver "didn't see" Larry in his red SUV and crunched right into him!  No serious injuries, just a lot of inconvenience and worry.

We are enjoying some cooler temperatures.  I think Fall is making its arrival!!   See you next week!!

Mimi's Heart

Different things give me ideas.  Today it was this red snowflake paper lying on my desk.  I knew I wanted to work with red.  This Mimi can be used for more than Valentine's day.  Let's call it a winter friendship card.

4118H  Mimi's Heart

I'm taking the Online Card Class Copic Coloring for Cardmakers, but as you can see, I haven't practiced enough!!  I was coloring the heart to indicate the light was coming from the upper left, which means that shadow at Mimi's feet should be going in the opposite direction!!  Oh, well!  Two weeks ago I would not have noticed!  It's an awesome class and a great value for the price.

Hope to see you at the Penny Black blog today.  I am running with my scissors!

Page Maps

Recently the design team from Penny Black was invited to participate in Page Maps.  I was delighted to be invited, also.  We were each given a sketch to follow and this is my sketch and the card I made.

Check out the other page maps and cards here:

30-200 build-a-snowman
Ahhh .. love is in the air!!  I used Penny Black's Build a Snowman transparent set.  No reason there can't be a lady snow person!!

Too hot for snowpeople here in Alabama.  The air conditioner is still running.  Winter will come soon enough, I suppose.  We are in the midst of planning Christmas travel ... how can this be??

Thanks for stopping by!

Bountiful by Penny Black

Well, I've taken five days of classes at the Online Card Classes "Copics for Cardmaking".  I haven't done much practicing on the balloons, umbrellas and boxes, but today I decided to pull out a favorite Penny Black image and practice what I've learned about lighting, shading and blending.

4065K Bountiful
Obviously, I have a lot to learn, but one of the messages from the instructors has been to do what works best for you!  I do wish I had known more about the numbering system before I bought my Copic markers.  But I did what worked best for me and most of my color combinations are not from the same number family.

I did enjoy coloring this Bountiful image from Penny Black.  It's a woodblock stamp so will be in my collection forever!

Enjoy your Sunday!  I heartily recommend the class!  You can start anytime and you will have the entire class stored on your computer permanently.  I am counting on being able to go back many times.  The work sheets and handouts are well worth the price of the class.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Watercolor Mimi

Mimi is enjoying the snowfall in this image from Penny Black's T for Transparent set "Frosty Fun".  I had fun trying out my new Peerless watercolors.  How can one resist using a blue that's called "Butterfly Wing Blue"?

30-256  Frosty Fun

Things got pretty tricky when I tried doing the face and hair with Copic markers.  I used a black ink that is not compatible with the alcohol in the markers.

I was very impressed with the intensity of the color that I was able to achieve with the Peerless watercolors.  I'm intrigued by little strips of paper that hold all that color!!  Lots of fun, but I am not precise enough to watercolor small images!!  Things can only improve!!

Thankful for Dies!

Metal dies have made it possible to make beautiful cards quickly, with no smudges from inky fingers!  I've used Penny Black's creative die set Autumn Jewels for the leaves and the Words of Gratitude set for the sentiment.  I cut two of the leaves using gold glitter paper which I distressed a bit with red brick distress ink.

51-071 Words of Gratitude;  51-072 Autumn Jewels
How could it have been two weeks since I posted to my blog?  I apologize for the neglect!  I have been busy, though, making Fall-themed cards.  It's been delightful lately to turn off the air conditioning and open all the windows.  Cooper and I have spent some time in the park; neither of us like to go out in the hot muggy weather.

Oh, and I have been very busy over on the Penny Black blog.  Come stop by and see what I've been up to.

Case Study #207

http://pennyblackinc.wordpress.com/

Yep!  I have taken over the Penny Black blog again today!  It's all about Christmas traditions.  But before you go, check out my entry for the Case Study Challenge this week.

Debbie Hughes is the muse this month on the Case Study Challenge blog.  I saw this beautiful inspiration photo and knew I had to participate in this week's challenge.

I stamped Penny Black's floral image from the Blooming Garden transparent set on vellum and embossed it with white.  I colored the flowers and leaves from the back.  I placed a strip of white cardstock onto the green notecard and then tacked the vellum overlay to the card base with a few zig-zag stitches.  The sentiment is a diecut from the Love Expressions die set by Penny Black.

51-025 Love Expressions;  30-155 Blooming Garden

I'm liking the pink and green color combo!  Reminds me of the Knock Out roses we have growing in our yard.  By this time of year in Alabama, the flowers are showing signs of stress from the unrelenting sun and heat.  I used to plant tons of annuals to brighten things up around our house, but finally gave up after so many summers of losing the flowers by August.

Have a great weekend!  Hope you'll drop by the Penny Black blog today to catch the latest edition of Runs with Scissors.  See you there ... if I haven't been put in detention!!

Interlocking Background by Penny Black

When I first saw the Creative Die "Interlocking" by Penny Black I knew it would make the perfect background for floral images.  And when I saw the "Pinwheel" Creative Die, I knew it would make a great flower when combined with the "Leaves" Creative Die.  So I finally put the three diecuts together and added a sentiment.  And I love the result!!

51-029 Interlocking; 51-026 Pinwheel; 51-002 Leaves; 30-207 From the Heart

I was so happy to use some fall colored cardstock!  The hot muggy temperatures we are still having here in Alabama are making me long for cooler fall days.  I added some white pigment ink to the petals and distress ink to the leaves, as well as some Wink of Stella gold.  Couldn't resist adding the little wooden heart to the sentiment banner.

The Interlocking die is quite intricate and I have discovered if I place the die with the cutting edge face up and the cardstock on top of it as it goes through the machine that it cuts perfectly with almost no need to pick out little pieces by hand.  I love time saving tips!!

Hope your Wednesday is going well!  We have been on the "take it easy" bus since we finished painting the living room.  I don't know how long this bus ride will last or where it will take us .. but it beats heavy duty housework!!  Thanks for your visit!

SENTIMENTal with Penny Black

It's a Run with Scissors day!!

http://pennyblackinc.wordpress.com/

But before you head over to the Penny Black Blog, enjoy this card including that lovely sentiment.

Love these tree-trimming little mice from Penny Black's transparent set Beauty of the Season. Sometimes the sentiment takes center stage.
30-264 Jolly Critters;  302-254  Beauty of the Season
The theme on the Penny Black blog this week has been sentiments.  To see the cards I've made  with Penny Black stamps and dies, join me as I run around with my scissors on the Penny Black blog.  Who knows?  There might be a sentimental story!

Tiny Wishes

I find myself choosing colors more reminiscent of Fall than summer these days.  It is so hot here today Cooper refused to go to the park.  How can a dog refuse, you say?  Try stiffening your entire body and planting feet firmly into ground!  Well, I insisted and we made it to the park, but it appeared he was saying "you can make me come to the park, you can't make me play."  So, I got the message and we returned home to our beloved air conditioning.

30-026 tiny wishes; 51-026 love expressions;51-055 shades; 51-033 silver linings

This is one of my all time favorite Penny Black images.  I love paper piecing her little outfit.  I added clouds and the little house using Penny Black creative dies.  I love that I finally bought the right brand of white pen .. it never fails!! (Signo)

Hope your day is filled with love and air conditioning if you need it!  Thanks for stopping by!!

Penny Black Trick or Treat

The weather has turned a little cooler this week and my thoughts turned towards Autumn.  And from there they wandered to Hallowe'en.
30-185  Halloween Critters
This is a scene I created using stamps from the Halloween Critters transparent set by Penny Black.  Simple stamping and embossing and coloring with Copic markers.  I stitched the white cardstock to matts I put together using Graphic 45 papers.

I just noticed it's been awhile since I posted to my blog.  I've been busy "crashing" the Penny Black blog lately and haven't been home much!

I'll be running with scissors  again this Saturday the 30th.  Things may get a bit "sentimental".

Thanks for stopping by!!

It's Christmas on the Penny Black Blog!

The full Penny Black Christmas release "Season's Greetings" is now available in the shop.  I hope you've had a chance to see the full reveal this past week.  The stamps, dies, stencils and stickers offer an incredible variety of styles!  The Penny Black designers outdid themselves with amazing inspiration cards.   Here's the first card I made with the new release stamps.

30-258 Prancers;  51-060 Exultations
I used the Transparent Set "Prancers" and the Creative Die set "Exultations".  I simply stamped one extra tree, fussy cut it and pop dotted it onto the card base.  Those die cut sentiments save tons of time and prevent last minute errors and smudges that can ruin your Christmas spirit.

http://pennyblackinc.wordpress.com/

And since it's Saturday I hope you will come see more of what my scissors and I have done with the new Penny Black Christmas stamps and dies:  classic, elegant and cute .. I had fun with them all.   I love sneaking onto the Penny Black blog and playing with all their stuff!  Just click here to read all about it!

Season's Greetings from Penny Black!

August 11th is finally here and that means the new Christmas stamps, dies and stencils from Penny Black are now available.  You can shop for the new release Season's Greetings here:
40-352 Festive Florals; 30-240 Textures; 51-067 World of Wishes
This card was inspired by Peet Roeven's amazing card here, using a stamp from last year.  I loved the plaid and ribbon!

The poinsettia image is from the new cling set Festive Flowers.  I've stamped, embossed and fussy cut three layers of the flower.  I colored the entire image with Copics and mounted it on a panel created with a stamp from the transparent set Textures.  I used the diecut Polaroid made from glossy gold paper as the frame for the floral display.  Sentiments are so easy when you use a diecut, this one from Penny Black's creative die set World of Wishes.

And since I believe everything is better with a touch of gingham, I added a bow tied to the Polaroid frame.  And of course some stitching to hold things together.

This is the first photo I've taken with the new camera I received in June for our anniversary.  I have been too frightened to take it out of the box and figure out how it works.  My Easy Share camera did everything automatically for me; just uploaded to the editing software automatically.  Much to my surprise, once I took the camera out of the box and just went step by baby step, I figured the process out!  I feel rather adult!!  And embarrassed that I procrastinated for two months!!

Hope your day is going well and all the technology in your life is working as it should!! Thanks for stopping by.

Friends

I love the assortment of stamps that can be used to create backgrounds in Penny Black's transparent set Footnotes.

51-041 Friends Frame; 51-002 Leaves; 30-238 Footnotes

I've stamped and embossed with white the text stamp and then distressed the whole card front with Distress inks.  I simply added a sentiment and some leaves, using Penny Black dies.  From the looks of it, I was in the mood for bright colors.  I am trying to remember to use up some of my sequins, too.

Well, it's Saturday and I am running with scissors on the Penny Black blog today.  I would love a visit!  Just click here to be transported!

Bon Voyage!

I love to travel.  And I love to fly.  There was a time I couldn't say that about flying!  I used to be terrified.  I don't know when that changed for me; perhaps it was when I realized that airplanes were the only way I could travel to visit family, friends and foreign countries.  I know that flying has become a bit more stressful with security checks and safety concerns, but that isn't enough to make me change my mind about flying.

30-224 Bon Voyage; 51-053 A Pocketful;  51-033 Silver Linings

I love the Bon Voyage transparent set by Penny Black.  I've used the airplane stamp for the main image and mounted it on the notecard cut with the die in A Pocketful Creative Die set.  The pocket for the card comes with the same set.  Both were sewn onto the base card.  Wish I had more of that map paper!

A few weeks ago I booked a flight for October to Cincinnati to attend the next gathering of the stamping retreat I went to last April.  It's a 5 day event where I am privileged to be with very talented and lovely ladies to share this hobby of ours.  I was feeling proud of myself to have booked early at a lower price.  Well, due to a mistake on the part of the hotel in Cincinnati, the event will be starting a day later this year, on Friday instead of Thursday.   Oooops, I was booked to leave early Sunday morning, making my stay only two days, a huge disappointment.  In desperation I called Delta airlines, knowing there is a $200 fee to make a change to my ticket.  I wanted to extend my stay to Monday to make up for the lost Thursday but didn't want to pay another $200.

To my huge surprise, very early in the conversation the Delta agent told me he would waive the $200 fee!  Not reduce it, but waive it!  And thankfully the ticket price hadn't increased since I booked the flight!  I did not think it possible that this could happen!  I was over the moon happy to know that I would now have more time at the retreat!

So here's a shout out to Delta Airlines for empowering their agents to make such great customer friendly decisions!  And to the agent who made me a very happy traveler.  I promise not to complain about the $25 fee for taking a suitcase along on my trip!!

Hope your day includes someone that surprises you with a good thing!!  And your visit is a very good thing in my day!

CASE Study Challenge #202

Today is Shari Carroll's last day as the muse on CASE Study Challenge blog.  I am delighted to CASE her lovely card.

Penny Black:  30-238 Footnotes; 30-117 Free Flight; 51-002 Leaves; 51-051 Tags and Toggles

The dies and stamps are all Penny Black.  Simple white embossing of the musical background onto kraft cardstock.  I colored the butterfly with Copics and placed it onto the diecut leaves.  Added the sentiment onto a diecut banner.

I am enjoying doing the CASE Study challenge each week.  I'm still being too literal in CASEing the muse's design, but it's good practice.

We are in the depths of our hot and muggies here in Alabama!  The kids return to school later this week.  Thankfully, the schools are air conditioned.

As always at this time of year, I will say "where did the summer go?"  Enjoy these last weeks before Fall arrives.  Thanks for your visit!

A Little Birdie by Penny Black

A sassy sense of humor runs in our family, so this card would be appreciated and enjoyed by several people in my birthday book!
40-327 A little Birdie
I stamped and embossed the image and colored it with Copics.  I made a second bird cage and pop-dotted it above the first, just for fun.  Black and white gingham makes me smile, so I've used it for matting and the ribbon.

I love these krafty katz images by Penny Black.  There is a possibility I am having too much fun lately!

The weekend is over.  Other than discovering that my washing machine needs a visit from a repair man, it's been a good weekend.  We went for lunch with church friends and ate so much that a bowl of popcorn was enough for supper.  I love days like that.

Hope your week gets off to a good start tomorrow.  Take time for fun!!

It's All About Fun!!

I love coloring with PrismaColor pencils on kraft.  The Penny Black krazy katz images add fun to the experience.

51-038 Hooray;  4389K Furry Florist
When I color with PrismaColor pencils on kraft, I first color the entire image with a neutral color such as cream.  I then go over the image several times with the final color. This technique seems to give more depth to each color.

I'm all about having fun while stamping lately.  If you want to see more of what happens when I run with scissors, be sure to check the Penny Black blog tomorrow!  Clue:  it will be fun!!
