Cooper's diagnosis is a partial tear of his ACL. We have the choice between conservative treatment or surgery. Both options carry the requirement of weight loss and low level activity for several months. For now we are spending time researching and thinking. Cooper is faced with losing so much of what makes his life enjoyable; more food, going for walks, running in the yard, and playing catch with his toys and tug of war with his blanket. He is still feeling the effects of the sedation and the trauma of a day at the vet's today. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. I think I am feeling some trauma myself.

Judy, I feel for you right now. I know what a sweet little guy Cooper is and how are doggies are like our children.
It sounds like something is treatable though, which is good to hear. I know how hard it is to restrict their food and keep them quiet. Does he like to sit with you on the couch ? I'll keep him in my prayers each night and hope he'll get to feeling better soon. Give him a big hug for me.

I have a Bichon Frise that tore his acl and we had no option. For him it was surgery. We kept him gated in the kitchen as it is our hub of activity and we wanted to keep him restricted and near us at the same time. That was in Feb.
We took him in for water therapy so he would start to use his leg more. In August he no longer favored the leg. He plays with his toys and his walks are getting longer. He is 11 years old. They have great recuperative powers. We did get his weight down about 4 to 5 lbs too. He is loving life.
